Mainspring housing

I did a total strip of my pro cdp II in order to have it CeraKoted as the paint is coming off, to my surprise the mainspring housing is plastic has this ever caused a problem with breakage and does anyone make an aluminum replacement for the housing?

There are no problems with the plastic housing. If there were, Kimber wouldn't use it.

There are tons of replacement parts available for a 1911- metal, plastic, take your pick. You can spend all day looking at different parts. Metal mainspring housings take only few minutes or two to install. Check out Brownells, or Ed brown products, or any of the other dealers for different designs.

I am not aware of any breakage and there are many replacement parts available. It has been discussed here many times. A search on the subject may provide you with more thorough information than I can.

I've got to agree with Gmountain and Nellybelle on this, I've never had a problem with one or heard of anyone that did. There are all kinds of replacements out there, in addition to the two sources already mentioned you can add Wilson Combat.

Thanks guys it just surprised me to find plastic parts on a gun of this type. I guess it helps with the weight savings. This being my first Kimber or 1911 for that mater I am learning fast and really appreciate all the info without being slammed about it.

Both the Ed Brown and Wilson are great choices. Ed Brown offers more options though, like chain-link, scales, etc. Brownells carries both brands and all of the Ed Brown options so post a pic when you decide on one.
