Ultra Raptor rear sights are different

I just recently bought a black Ultra Raptor II and already had a stainless Ultra Raptor II that I bought several years ago. The first thing I noticed when I aimed the new black Raptor was that the rear sight was a bit different than the stainless and actually different than my other Ultras. It has a steep taper on the sides towards the dots. I'm just curious if this is something new for all, something that is just different about the black Raptor or what. Here's a picture of each.
PS: it's hard to get a picture one handed!

My UC Raptor has the same sights that your stainless has...

It's the black one from 2006...

My guess would be that Kimber determined that the newer version of the rear sight allows you to focus on sight picture faster. I don't know if I'm explaining that right but after quickly viewing both pictures many times I'm finding that without the recess and additional material around the rear sight my eye is drawn to the 3 dot picture faster.

Chuck, I think you may be right about the sight picture once getting used to it. The Kimber America site does show a couple of models that appear to have this same rear sight. One is the Onyx Ultra and another under custom shop - Classic Carry Elite. They all list the old and new style as tritium night sights tactical wedge. I'm wondering how common these are going to be on the new guns that come with tritium. I am so accustom to sighting with the old style that the first time sighting with them really was a shock.
Thanks for the replies

I am pretty sure all my Kimber sights are like your Stainless Raptor.

Is this the two different sights you have?

Zoomybaby, the first sight pictured looks like the style I have on my Tactical II and my CDP II. The second one is neither on my Stainless or Black Rapture. The stainless Raptor has the horizontal lines (antiglare lines) on the side of the sight and on the Black Raptor the angle of the taper is steeper (or should I say less steep) with the top of angle corner hitting about the middle of the dot on each side. Now I'm wondering just how many sights they do have. lol

Hoffbrew, is your Raptor fairly new and is it black or SS?
