I don't own one but I have 4 ultras. But man I love the looks of the diamond ultra myself. I think an ultra is an ultra. I had a few hick-ups with my first one but learned a lot and haven't had any problems with the following two. I just bought one more ultra that I will going to the range with tomorrow. I will post a range report of my experience with it here if I don't change my mind. I have a few things that works for me that I will share if you have an interest but all-in-all the ultras are 100% reliable after break-in in my experience but there are a few things you can do to help make sure you don't make a premature decision on reliability.

Yep...Ultra is a good shooters.

Is the PVD coating holding up on Kimbers 'Special Edition' line?
This Sapphire Ultra has it too.

Tinman, I have the Sapphire Ultra and Pro. NO malfunctions with either pistol. I don't "carry" either one of these but they have been fired, both probably in the 250 to 300 round range neither one shows any wear that I can tell. A lot of people incorrectly assume I bought them for my wife but even tho she thinks they are "pretty" they are really just for me. I don't know of any problems. The Sapphire Pro is a tiny bit more accurate but not by much and could just be me.

The guy that offered it to me in trade today states he bought it for his wife two years ago and has never fired this Kimber. I like it from a manly point of view too.

Is it worth a grand?

YES. I would snatch his arm off on that price. You know what the MSRP is? Mine was under MSRP but only by about 150 bucks, was a GunBroker purchase from Sandy Springs Gun Club in Atlanta.
