Used or New Target 1911

Hello all I would love some advice for others out there. I am looking at a Kimber target gun (not bulls eye) would it be better to buy a used Super Match II with Comp and trigger job or a new Eclipse Target II and set it up accordingly? Thanks

First, welcome to the forum! As far as your question goes, it's difficult to answer without knowing how you are going to use your new Kimber and without seeing the Super Match. I guess if you like the used gun and it's modifications, and it's in your price range, I'd go for it. On the other hand, if you are wanting to "customize" a gun. The Eclipse is a clean slate.

That's a tough question and I agree with what Islander said. I don't know if you've already found a Super Match II you're interested in or you're going to be looking for one. I believe the Eclipse Target II is a lot of gun for the money and a great building platform.

I am also looking at the Eclipse Target II. This can also be had with combat sights. I hear it also makes a great carry gun for those who like a full size .45.

Just bought a new Eclipse Target II. Can't wait to shoot it. I saw the Super Match.....Nice gun. Can't go wrong with either one.

Lots and lots of pistols don't get shot much, and many that do are well taken care of. Buying used can be a great bargain, and sometimes with upgrades and accessories included.

For example I picked up a used Colt XSE, at the used price and it had had a grands worth of Wilson Combat upgrades and work. Seller was so upset, he didn't and refused to send me any magazines with the pistol. I still made out.

Wink Really Pretty Close!

First off, welcome to the forum from beautiful downtown Monroe, Georgia!!!
Monroe City Limits (3).JPG

I went to the Kimber website and compared the Target Eclipse and the Super Match. At least by the posted descriptions and specs, it appears that the only real difference between them is that the Super match comes equipped with a magwell and has an ambi thumb safety. There may be some subtle differences in checkering/serrations and finishes, but in my book, not enough to justify the almost $1000 difference in price.

If you like the additional equipment that is coming with the used Super Match, then, if in good condition and functioning correctly, then that is the pistol for you. If you like the idea of adding your own custom touches, then the Target Eclipse is the way to go. If carry is in the list of proposed uses, I believe that the Eclipse would make the better choice. TETO YMMV!! Whichever you choose, it will be a really nice pistol. Let us know which way you go. Pictures are a must!!!

Monty, sounds like that used Colt that you picked up was a real steal. Besides, magazine don't cost that much!!!

To me a used Kimber is better than a new about anything else.

Welcome to the site from Tennessee!

If I was going to modify a pistol for a certain purpose type of shooting I would buy the used match Kimber and make it whatever I wanted it to be. If you can get it for a good price.

If I bought the new Eclipse, I probably would not make any changes to it other than grips and or items that can be removed and returned to stock condition.
