Slide not locking back

The slide on my new stainless target .38 super, will not consistently lock back after I have fired the last shot in the mag.I have 3 new mags and I have tried different ammo in all of them and still, it will not consistently stay back. Any ideas anyone,
Apart from that problem, I'm very happy with it so far.

Unload gun and mags. Insert mag briskly pull slide to rear as fast as you can. All the way to rear. Did slide lock back? Do each mag. If slide locks back then mag springs are okay.

Next how good a shooter are you technique wise. The gun can extract and eject but the slide not make it back enough for lob of stop to engage notch.

Provide more support o gun and see.

Or the ammo is on the light end and inconsistent. If that is all you can get use a little lighter recoil spring.

I'm betting on the gun needing more support if the mag test above worked.

Keep shooting!

I have mentioned this before in a few posts: I use snap caps to check things out in my pistols, I load them in a mag, pull back the slide to see if they load, I do this until they are gone in the mag. The slide locks back........

Had the same problem on my new Ultra Carry. Called Kimber and they said this can be from only two things. A mag problem, which doesn't seem to be your problem since it happens on three mag. The other thing is a defective slide lock pin. They sent me a new one, problem solved!!

Those are the mechanical reasons. But it can also be shooter induced or mismatched recoil spring rate for the ammo. The later usually occurring to handloaders lightening their loads but failing to lighten their spring.

Thanks for the advice Mike. I checked all the mags, and they are all good, so i went down to the range for another shoot. I tried modifying my grip, because I think I have been applying a bit of pressure to the slide with my left thumb,(I'm right handed,) and now the slide locks back like it's supposed to.
Cheers, Matt
