Installed an Ed Brown magwell/mainspring housing yesterday

...in my new SS Gold Match II.

I reviewed a couple of videos on Youtube showing the procedure and everything went very easy. This is the first time I've ever worked on a 1911, but I have a good set of gunsmithing tools and bench blocks for working on my other guns.

I bought the Brownells mainspring pin removal tool and it worked great. It's easy to justify getting the right tools for the job...can't have too many tools.

The EB SS magwell is a quality piece. I was really impressed with the fit and finish right out of the box. Sure is nicer than the factory plastic housing that came with the pistol.

Looking forward to getting the custom magwell grips I ordered from Hogue...they show a 45 day backlog.

Keep the old parts, and change it back if you have to send it back to Kimber!

Nice job. Looks good Ultra sporter.

And folks, let's remember. If there isn't any picture, it didn't happen!

Sweet. Now post some good pics.

Do you use mags with a heel plate? I'm curious how far the Wilson mags stick out beyond the bottom of the well. Also if you have the basic flat Kimber base plate, how does that work with the mag well?

Question: do you need a pin removal tool or will a small punch work. And I assume you just drive the pin out. Does it take much force? What kind of clamp or vice did you use?
