2-24-16 Range report 9mm Ultra Carry

I went to the range with my two new Kimbers. One is my first 9mm Kimber an Ultra CarryII, the other is my second Ultra Raptor in black 45acp. I shot them back to back with their own target but this report is on the 9mm.

I went to the closest range about two miles from home which isn't my favorite for sure. But I made do with the intent of just putting break-in rounds through them.

The first thing I noticed was how hard on the fingers the stock mags were. I always use Wilson Combat mags with my 45s but only had the stock mag and an extra bought at the time of purchase for the 9mm. My hands hit every sharp edge on them and it was an ouch experience before I had finished the 100 rounds. I'm sure they will break in some and get easier if I keep using them.

The little 9mm ran flawlessly. Not one hiccup with the 100 rounds. The black sights were not too bad although I prefer three dot. The front strap without checkering was a tad slippery. During rapid fire my grip would shift slightly but manageable. The recoil was noticeably less than my 45s. I have adapted pretty well to the 35% right hand 65% left hand pressure. Without the checkering I had to tighten the right hand a little more than normal for rapid fire.

I had the target at 30 feet for center mass and moved it back to about 45 feet for slower head shots. Brought it back in to take a photo and then finished off the 100 round box of Winchester white box 115 grain. You know what?...I fell in love with this pistol.

I'm going to take the advice of azguy and glokrok and buy some 124 grain. I had some bulk 9mm 115 for my wife's gun already so that's what I shot. Shhhh, don't tell her. As a matter of fact if she ever fires this 9mm Kimber she will probably hit me with her Beretta and take the Kimber for her own.
