How many rounds have you put through your Kimbers?

At what point did you start seeing failures if any? What maintenance/parts replacement to get the gun running again?

I think I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. Mine is newer with approx. 500 rounds through it. I have FTF 1-2 in 7 rounds even chambering the first round. Don't know whether to keep going with the "break in period" or take it to a gunsmith. I'm not taken with the feed ramp set up on the ultra.

Just over 300 rounds on my new a raptor. all stock and nothing new... No failures yet!! All Winchester and FreedomMunitions 230 gr FMJ.

Likely ordering a new spring here in the next few weeks based on the recommendation of 800 rounds.

Ok, on the subject of springs. What's the thought on using a heavier recoil spring as a solution for FTF. Factory is an 18lb & next step up is a 21 lb. Bad idea?

Since I retired and have to pay for my own ammo I count them by the dollars spent instead of the rounds fired. Giving up the keys to the armory cost me almost as much as giving up the gas card for the take home car.

Your issues are more then your recoil spring, while there is a chance that a + power spring may help the round to feed. It is just masking the real problem, most likely a poorly adjusted extractor or a tight chamber. Although there could be other problems, these are the most common with Kimbers and 1911s in general.
A search on the net will provide you with tons of info on checking and fixing both problems.

I bought the above gun lightly used(under 500 rounds)it was a trade in, going for a great price. I had a feeling it wouldn't be running right when I took it to the range for the first time and sure enough it did the same thing yours is. Probably worse, but I diagnosed it right off the bat as a tight extractor. Took the gun down spent a few minutes adjusting the extractor and in five minutes it was up and running. I have over a thousand trouble free rounds fired with it now, it's one of my favorites. A small issue like above is most likely your problem, if your not comfortable working on it, give Kimber a call they will fix it.

My oldest Kimber has in excess of 22,000 rounds through it, my newest 350. Other then a problem with a safety on a new gun from the factory I've rarely had a problem with any of them. Normal maintenance and spring replacement at the appropriate time has kept problems to a minimum.

My three have between 1,200 and 1,800 each, depending on which one you're talking about.

I have a Springfield Armory 1911A1 that is 20+ years old. 10s of thousands of rounds thru it and nothing has ever worn out. I did replace the springs in an attempt to fix a problem, that was only maladjusted extractor.

I agree. And easy to determine, and easy to fix.
