Finish Coming Off Slide

I feel like I've just had my heart torn out. Was cleaning up the master carry ultra to have it looked at for FTF. The black finish on the slide is soft & coming off behind the ejection port. Using the Hoppes Elite cleaner. I thought this stuff was a milder cleaner. Anyone have advise other than stop using it? What's everyone else using?

So now it doesn't run right & needs refinished. Sigh!

I would call Kimber and relay the info of FTF and you are not happy with the way the finish is! They may correct both problems for you. It would not hurt to make a call.

I Had to send my Ultra .45 to Kimber for FTF problems. I mention the worn finish on a new gun. They fixed the FTF problem and refinished the whole pistol. Very satisfied with their work and turnaround time.

One of Kimbers weak points has been their Kimpro finish.

..."Big City Bound"

...sounds like a job for the crew in Yonkers. I'm sure they'll get her tuned up and pretty again for you :-)
...from the way you describe it, the finnish getting "soft", I'm baffled?
The Hoppe's shouldn't cause that! Any chance you could post a pic? "Patience is a virtue" Erock, hang in there man :-)

Agree with the others, just let the Kimber CS folks know about the finish issue and they will solve at the same time they fix the FTF. Hoppes does not remove finish so this is likely due to surface prep when they were 'finishing' a bunch of slides.

Here is a picture. At first sight one might think this was abuse but I was pushing on it with my finger nail as I was in the WTF moment. It' hard again after setting the night but a little flakey. I will give them a call tomorrow.

I could just color it in with the sharpie.

What do you mean "pushing on it with my finger nail" ??

What is a "WTF" moment ??

Just my opinion, but that doesn't look like a problem with a KimPro finish but maybe something else...
When I noticed the finish coming off in the rag I was thinking "What The ****" and having a bit of a panic attack. I began checking the rest of it by pushing on it with my finger nail. Yes, I did the small stuff with my finger nail believe it or not while the finish was soft. Maybe I shouldn't have done that but at that point I had nothing to lose. There is no metal damage.

I think there is someone here local that does the Cerakote finish. I may talk to him tomorrow as well.
