Sapphire Owners

Here is my brand new Sapphire Ultra.
Has anyone seen blue PVD finish deficiencies like this?
I had the weapon for one day and off to Kimber it went.
Very disappointed this was not detected by the gunsmiths doing the assembly.

Yikes, yes, that does not bode well the durability of that PVD finish, but even more so, as you suggest, about Kimber's quality control process.

Not trying to be mean but did you not get a chance to inspect the Ultra before purchase? If you bought online I understand.

That had nothing to do with durability. That Sapphire should not have ever left the mothership like that.

I have a Sapphire Ultra and a Sapphire Pro both with about 350-400 rounds each and they are not showing any signs of wear or being fired for that matter. For the record I have a total of three Kimber's with PVD finish none are showing wear. Full disclosure they are not used on a daily basis, not been in a holster, not thrown under my car seat or in the back of a truck. They are not safe queens, I fire and use them but not abuse them.

Welcome to the site from Tennessee, 1911guy!

I did purchase online although I did ask the dealer very specific questions about finish scratches because I had seen two Sapphire Ultras that I did not buy because of grip safety scratches.
Kimber customer service said depending on how you depress the grip safety it may rub on one side or the other because of the tight manufacturing tolerances. I found this odd since both Ultras were new in two different show rooms. How much handling could have taken place?
What I'm upset about is I missed the finish issue at the transfer because I was so stuck on the grip safety issue I had seen and just too excited to get the new weapon.
Hopefully Kimber returns it perfect and lesson learned.

The Ultra Sapphire I recently sold had left side 'slide' scratches/blemishes visible through the PDV. The PDV finish was 100% perfect.
imo....Kimber applies PDV 'Special Edition' colors to salvage <100% grade slides.

Thanks. I think I found those on Ebay. Blue/Black similar to VZ but way cheaper, they are G10. Company name was Lok I think. Seems like I paid 40-45 dollars. They are grippy but not to rough.

Kimber took 6 weeks and sent me a new Sapphire Ultra. This weapon had finish issues on the slide stop.
Give me a break.
