4/5/16 Wilson Combat 4" flat wire trial :-)

...smooth as owl $hit :-) Had the new 4" springs show up last night. UPS guy came around 8pm, looks like someone's getting over time this week :-) I am off today so I figured I'd give one a try. 150 rounds of Fiocchi 115gr FMJ ran flawlessly. NICE!!!
...target at 25'

Nice to hear your happy with it. I have two 4" .45 with the flat wire, took me a couple range sessions to adjust to the new recoil feel, it is a little different then a round spring. But I would not go back to round, I like it and it works great in my guns also.
Nice Swiss target, or at least it is now.

Hi Tank, good to know the flat wire spring is working out for you. can you tell me what the difference is in the recoil that that you have now. I would like to change the spring in my pro carry II. Are you using the stock guide rod as well?

I have the WC flat wire spring in all of my 4" and 5" 1911's, the spring is smoother and requires less pressure to rack the slide once it's broken in. The FW spring has 10 times the life of the round wire spring. Used in the 4" (Pro) guns you don't need the "L" or any other tool to break them down. You can not use the stock guide rod with them, the inside diameter of the FW spring is smaller, Wilson sells a kit that has all the necessary parts needed to run the FW spring.

Like Chuck said, nothing major but if you've been shooting them with a round spring for awhile you'll notice it. I really believe they are the best thing ever for a four inch gun, five inch I don't feel the same. It works but you don't get the added benefits of a significantly longer life and easy take down.
WC flate wire in a 4" SCPHD.

WC flat wire in S.A. TRP, with buffer.

I just purchased the EGW Kimber 4" Flat wire setup. Has anyone done a comparison of the two?

LOL, to be honest I didn't know that anybody but Wilson Combat offered flat wire spring kits for 1911's. I'd appreciate it if you could post some pictures when you get it.

EGW Flat spring

Here is the EGW (on the right) version of the Flat wire for Kimber 4", next to the Wilson Combat. Haven't tested it yet but I'll let you know. I read some pretty good things about it.
Comes with a blued reverse plug
