9mm Projectiles for Stainless Target II

I have recently purchased a Kimber Stainless Target II, in 9mm, for my wife to compete in IPSC Classic matches.

We both mainly shoot IPSC Production, using CZ SP01 Shadows. Our reloading formula for the CZ's uses a 124gn FP projectile and an overall length of about 1.1" (28mm).

I'm aware, that generally speaking that 1911's prefer round nose projectiles, however I've been told that newer 1911's - especially the 9mm models - are a lot more forgiving these days. As I really do not want to change my reloading press setup, if I can avoid it, I was wondering how others have got on shooting a flat point projectile through their Stainless Target II.

For the record, the projectiles we are, are these ones, in 124 gn:

Welcome to the group.

I don't see any reason your new gun would have any problem with those rounds. As I'm sure you are aware, a nice polish on the feed ramp can do wonders toward a guns digestion.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois BuckoNZ. Let me state right up front that I don't have a Kimber chambered in 9mm. I believe the problem that some 1911's demonstrate loading a flat nosed bullet is partially because of the larger diameter .45. I do have friends that shoot 1911's chambered for 9mm, one of them reloads and they both shoot wadcutters and semi wadcutters and I've never heard of either of them having any problems with them. I think with the smaller diameter 9mm there is less chance of the bullet hanging up. Since you already bought the gun and have the reloads why not just give them a try.

Thanks for the welcome and the comments.

The pistol is on order - we don't actually have it yet - so we aren't experiencing a specific issue. However by the sound of things, the Kimber should shoot our reloads with FP projectiles just fine.

When the gun arrives, we'll give it a go and advise.

Looking forward to your report. Until your new gun arrives, don't be a stranger!
