When You Get Home

Do you unload your carry gun and put it in a safe

Put it in a safe loaded

Put it on your nightstand loaded

I put mine in the safe loaded and take it back out before bed and it goes on the night stand. I will tell you I have no kids and it's only my wife and I in the house.

Normally I get dressed in the morning (includes holster + gun) and get undressed to go to bed. When I undress, gun (loaded) goes in top draw of chest (out of reach of small grandkids, not that they would be in my bedroom at night anyway). I put my EDC in the same place every night. That way it's automatic if I choose to get it. Nightstand is not necessary, as we live a very safe neighborhood and the alarm is on at night, just in case.

I wear it till bed time then it's on the night table. If I happen to be lounging in shorts watching TV it is on the table or ottoman with me. Most home invasions are actually drug rips and they often hit the wrong house. They are frequent in AZ. I also have a marked PD car in my drive to further draw attention.

Each kid had a loaded handgun in their room and can use them. Though they are moving out this week.

There is always two certain guns in each safe that are loaded too.

Each home defense gun either has a wml on it or a handheld light next to it.

My carry gun stays loaded in condition 1, 24 - 7, if it's not on me it's next to me or on the side of nightstand (strong magnet). I try to empty it weekly at the range but sometimes it goes a couple of weeks without being shot.

I live on an island in a tourist area. I can leave my doors unlocked but never leave my carry gun unloaded.

It is just me and my wife. Which ever pistol I am using for CC goes on the nightstand when I come home. If it is coming out of CC rotation it is unloaded wiped down and placed in the safe. There is a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 special with 3 speed loaders next to my recliner, within my reach but out of sight.
There is one Smith & Wesson 2" barrel .44 mag. loaded in the safe, just in case I am forced to open it and can't get to any thing else.
When grandkids are present both "house" guns are made secure.

Oh, in the safe ready to lock and load is a Winchester Riot Shotgun .12ga and my little Black Rifle Carbon 15.

I put my Smith in my briefcase downstairs. My P99 goes upstairs in the bedroom on a chest, across the room from the bed. Always loaded.

i was always taught to put the gun across the room so you have to get up to get it- that way you are thinking a little clearer. I'm not worried about haing some notice- the dog takes care of that.

That was also in my thinking. If I have to get up to get the gun, I'm probably more awake than if I just grabbed it off the night stand. Don't have a dog, but you should hear that damn alarm when it goes off. I will scare the bejeezis out of you.
