Cleaning your EDC

It has, due to some difficult circumstances, been a few weeks since I was able to visit the range. I've been carrying my Micro 9 almost exclusively. I noticed this weekend that it was covered with s fine layer of what appeared to be dust and lint. I took it apart and cleaned it, reoiled it, and cleaned the holster really well. All of that got me to thinking. How often do you break down and clean your EDC? When is the build up just too much for it to function? A day later and I see it's already starting again. I like cleaning them much better after I get to shoot them!

I try to clean my EDC every 2 weeks but I never go more then 3. It's really surprising how much crap they can pick up just being carried daily. I clean my carry holster about every other time I clean my EDC.

Once a week on Saturday I pull the slide off, wipe the weapon down and re-oil.

I'm with Chuck on every two weeks, given that I have not had an opportunity to get it dirty at the range. Generally any EDC will pick up clothing dust as well as skin cells which I do not believe will go well with burned powder.

I enjoy disassembly, cleaning and inspection, followed by reassembly. It gives me an opportunity to check the wear of my weapon and enjoy a little 'quiet time'.

I do a quick wipe down and 2 swipes with the bore snake every Friday while sitting at my desk and holster gets blown out with air hose or that can of air then wiped as well.

Usually only clean 1 time a month because I don't leave the house everyday. A lot of times I will run some hardball thru it while at the range, then it gets cleaned no matter how long it has been since last cleaned.

I shoot every weekend and shoot my EDC at least every second week and then it gets cleaned. I have a G42 that I use solely for running or walking which I do daily. I wipe it down when I get back from exercise and I clean it at least once a month. Inspect, patch down the bore and light oil.

I might go two months if I haven't shot it. Even then I don't do a total clean/lube. There just isn't any lint, dirt, or lack of lubrication to warrant it. Granted, my guns don't see extreme duty. I don't carry every hour of the day, and if I'm doing yard work, or traipsing in the wild, I'm not carrying.
