Question Slide lock issue

Gentlemen and Ladies,

I need your help. My wife has a Micro9 Belair which she enjoys very much. She has about 750 to 1000 rounds through the gun. On two occasions the slide lock has backed out while she was at the range, and the last time it fell out completely. Here is a short narrative of the events leading up to the malfunction.

The slide locked back as if the magazine was empty. Which it was. She noticed that there was a live round in the chamber. She dropped the magazine and then the slide went forward. She placed the gun on the bench and noticed the slide lock on the bench.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for your help.

might be on the wrong side of the spring that holds it in...or missing

Pull the slide stop out and look at the frame, see if you haven't lost the spring that holds the slide stop in place.

Spring is in place and the retaining screw is tight. I am having a little trouble understanding the relationship between the slide lock and the spring. So I do not want to tweak or reform the spring until I do. Can anyone shed some light on how they work together?

the spring end should sit in groove on top of slide stop lever

When reinserting the slide stop, how do you make sure that happens?

Hey Shootinit, thank you very much for the pictures. They are great. They confirmed what I discovered last night (I should have checked the forum before I cleaned her gun last night). Anyway my wife and I went to the range last night. Our membership gives us Tuesday night training. So we went and trained and no malfunctions of her gun. Or my new Micro9 Desert Night dn.

Upon return from the range I stripped both guns side by side. I looked closely at both guns. I saw the small indention on the slide locks. The spring on my wife’s Belair was not shaped exactly like my Desert Night nor was it the exact same position. So I removed the spring, tweaked it a bit to resemble the Desert Night as closely as possible. Reinstalled correctly. It seems to be holding as it should but a little range time will be the deciding factor.

Again Shootinit, thanks for the pictures.

Hey, I apologize for my absence. Started new job and other life issues have taken my time and energies.

On the issue with the slide lock spring with my wife’s Micro 9 Belair...

She did have another issue, I feild stripped it and retweaked. So far so good after a few outings. She goes back to the range next week for her “Girl and a Gun” meeting. So we will see how that goes. But I ordered a new spring from Kimber. Only one I could find on line was one for the .380 version. So I ordered it thinking the breakdown pictures were old and they updated the part. But no, it was a .380 part.

Called Kimber and talked to them about it. I was told the part is not available for ordering. But the young man I spoke to graciously sent me one 9mm version spring. At no charge. So if the current spring fails again then I will install the new one.
