Front Sight Fiber Optic Insert Problems

Has anybody experienced problems with the fiber optic insert ejecting from the front sight frame on their Micro 9? I’ve already had two insert come out while shooting. Both had been installed by Kimber techs.

The first time was after only a few mags on the inaugural range trip. Never saw where the insert went when it exited that time. Second time was on the outing after my gun was repaired by Kimber techs for a mag dropping problem and they had replaced the missing fiber insert during their courtesy inspection and service. I found the insert laying to my left on the shooting table after 50 rounds. Given that Kimber provided me with several inserts and installation instructions from the factory with the gun, I’m wondering if this is a known problem.

Thoughts/experiences???

I don't own a Micro 9 but I have several guns with FO sights. And yes having them fly out is pretty common. If you think they fly out of your M9 you should see how they disappear from a .357 mag.

I have found the best way to get them to stay in is to use a little heat. The plastic seems to swell a little when warmed up. Especially on the ends. I use a micro torch and a tiny flat screw driver. Yes I have screwed a couple but that's why I bought multipacks of three different sizes Ö Amazon, where else? They have a large selection.

I not big on trying to glue them.

Take your time, practice on scrap pieces Ö it does work.

My Micro 9 has around 500 rounds through it with no problems. Since you posted this I will watch it. Thanks.

If you carry this gun you maybe better off get some night sights. I personally like them better on a carry gun. Fiber optic sight rods do pop off sometimes.

I agree with jc. I have fiber optics sights on 1 gun, great for the range with day light but suck for little or no light.

I am only finding day/night sights at around $180.00 for the Micro 9. Any other options out there?

Presidentís Day is next week, maybe youíll find a sale but I donít think anyone other than Truglo sells night/fiber-optic sights.

I bought the TFX pro with the orange front sight for my Ultra from Optics Planet for $119.00. Oh, and I really like them.
