Anyone Removed the Kimber (Hogue) Rubber Grips?

I removed the screws but seems as if the grips are "glued" or stuck on really well. Did not want to damage the grips as a buddy of mine wants them. Anyone have experience removing them? Do you just pry up the corners? Can it be done without damaging the old grips?

Could be just a tight fit around the bushings. Plus oil can sometimes cause a hydraulic affect holding the two surfaces tight together. Use something thin like a putty knife & see if it won't break loose.

I would suggest something plastic and thin. Maybe a piece of Lexan cut from some old package, to loose things up. Something that won't scratch the gun grips are cheap frame refinishing isn't. I have a thin plastic putty knife that sounds about right too.

I took mine off to replace with a set of walnut grips. No problems getting them off. Maybe slide a credit card under one corner to get it started coming loose?

YMMV

Remove magazine & confirm empty chamber. Remove grip screws. Slide finger into magazine well. Push grip off (away from frame) with pad of finger. Repeat for opposite side grip. Done.

Could also use a wood dowel if they're really stuck from inside the mag well.

They are a tight fit on the bushings.

Thank you for the replies! The thin plastic putty knife worked like a charm, no damage to the grips, no scratches on the frame. Was really tight around the bushings. Thanks again!

Nope...nope... ain't happenin'. After I read this I thought "hmmm?...let's see" . No way I can get my finger in the mag well of a 1911. I could barely get my pinky in far enough to touch the back of the grip but I don't think I could put any pressure on the grip panel. I would have to try the dowel rod trick or something else. My bear paws are the same reason I don't own a Micro 9 Macro Paws.

I use an old credit card to slide under the edge of the grip. They are tight around the bushings and they do tend to "suction" themselves on the frame.
