Micro 9 Magazine Issues - Bad "Follower" design

I posted some pictures on this thread related to the same issue I've discovered but the video at the bottom of this post is actually the same exact issue, just with a .45 magazine someone is showing.

This seems to be the root cause of my occasional (and other folks it seems) FTF's. It's that top round when the magazine is full, it is allowed to nose down when the slide is feeding it to the chamber. Then it gets stuck on the feed ramp. A nice little "bump" to the back of the slide will usually put it back into battery. When there are less rounds in the magazine, the nose dive ability is less too.

Does anyone have an 8 round magazine they could see if this same thing happens? I've tried it with my Kimber 7-round magazines and the Sig Sauer 7-round magazines (base pad modified to fit Micro 9).

Here's a full video on the issue (again, showing a .45, but same issue with the Micro 9). Anyone got any ideas on solving this?

The only thing I've found that consistently feeds fine is not to do a 7+1 when using my 7rnd magazine. Instead, I use my 7rnd magazine but end up with a total of 7 rounds (6+1). If I do 7+1, I don't often have a FTF, but every now and then I still do... so for EDC, seems 6+1 is a better bet.

As much as I love micro 9, I hate mags for that reason. The best solution I have found is use factory mgs for the range and use Sig ags for EDC

I use the Sig mags in general (I like the pinky flare on them). They have the same issue though. Like you, I love the Micro 9, but am now having second thoughts as to an EDC. Live and learn I guess... I now have another characteristic to look for that I hadn't thought of before - how the magazine functions after loading it full

I'm wondering if changing out the recoil spring to something heavier would help?! I've got an e-mail message into Galloway to gather their thoughts. FWIW, I did call Kimber, they only said I could send it in... but I am always leery of sending my guns off. Plus mine doesn't do it very often... but it does happen - which impedes my confidence as an EDC.

Is it just doing it with hollow points? You could try a feed friendly round like Golden Sabers.

I don't have a Micro 9, but had a Sig P938 and yeah the mag springs were borderline weak when new. FTFs started after a while, springs were already fatigued, I manually stretched them out for more tension. It worked but that is only a temporary band aid.

I had so many other problems with that gun I didn't come up with a long term magazine solution. Does Wolff or somebody make springs that will fit?

I've had it do it with ball ammo on rare occasion as well. Haven't tried Golden Saber though.

I ordered the Galloway 22lb recoil spring and am going to try that. I traded e-mails w/their lead gunsmith and he said the heavier spring would reduce the felt recoil (that's not a bad thing in a small 9) and also thought it might help the issue mentioned above. For $15, it's worth a shot (no pun intended).

I have never had a FTF with the Sig mags, the Kimber mags on the other hand at least FTF every time.

I modified Sig P290 8-round mags to fit my Micro 9. No failures to feed with them (I've since rounded off the back of the baseplate a bit more).

Heavier or refreshed recoil springs absolutely can help with FTFs. Good move.
