What the F with replacement recoil spring Kimber ?

Gun has been running fine since new. I have run some heavy loads thru it, with no problems. Maybe 700 rounds. Got the 3 pack of springs and so far have kinked 2 of them trying to install them. I don't remember the original spring being as long as what I was sent. Do I need to compress these GD things in a vise or something overnight or ??? I'm sticking my old one back in it since gun still runs just fine. Is the Galloway spring any easier to install ?? Kimber can have these back...

Problem solved: used a chopstick, flat washer and a small box end wrench to repeatedly compress the spring until it was about a 1/2" longer than the one I took out. Just gotta be smarter than the spring LOL

I have a P938 which is the same setup. I hold the slide in my hand with my palm on the top of the slide and wrap my fingers around the spring, push the guide rods in while my fingers hold the spring from rising. Once enough of the guide rod is in the spring you should be able to compress the spring and push the rod in place.

Your old spring is shorter because it's wearing out, that's a sure sign it's time to replace it. Compressing a spring dosen't soften it, I've heard people say loading a magazine and letting it sit for a week or so will help soften it. The only thing that softens a spring is working it, compressing and releasing it is what does the trick.

I recently changed out mine with the Galloway 22lb/heavier recoil spring. The first couple times were a bi$%h to put in... this video helps a LOT. It was still difficult at first but now it's not too bad, maybe it's broke in a little too though?! Anyway, with the factory spring, I never use to have to do it this way.

We're working tool design that will help install the heavier spring. The reason your stock one is easy to install is because it's very low weight, which is why the pistol is so snappy with the stock spring.
