Size matters!

All,

I find it interesting that almost nowhere is the Micro 9 discussed in contrast to its larger brethren. Stand-alone photos don’t really do a good job of conveying how small it truly is. Here is a pic comparing it to a full-size 1911, and its spiritual predecessor, the Detonics Combat Master.

Perhaps more remarkable is the weight differential. The 1911 weighs 2 lbs 5 oz, the Detonics is surprisingly heavy at 1 lb 15 oz, and the Micro 9 is almost half the weight of the Detonics at 1 lb even.

I have to wonder if Kimber has future plans for another member of the family. After all, the Micro 380 spawned the Micro 9. Could that someday lead to a Micro 45, one slightly larger than the Micro 9 but smaller (and much lighter) than the Detonics?

Hmmmm....

Agreed. That's a lot of power in a little package. I have a Micro9 SS LG and recently acquired a Glock 43. Now the Micro9 is smaller and holds an extra round so the only reason I carry the Glock is if there's some chance that I might get it wet or super dirty.

I believe that's because most people are either full size fans or compact fans. Personally i prefer the smaller frames over the full size. I would like to have a subcompact in .45, until then I'll have to be happy with my micro 9 and UC2 for a .45.

I'm just the opposite of friend wayne … I prefer my 1911s in full size 5" guns, 9mm or .45. I have a Sig, Ruger, Colt and two Kimbers … all in the adult size guns. Although I have been thinking about an alloy framed, Commander size, in 9mm, would fit nicely in my collection.

The weight Kimber achieved on th Micro 9 is miraculous. That makes it amazing for carry.

Welcome Mike. I have nothing productive to add, but I do have one question:

the band, or the car?

Once you go Light Weight Commander sized you will be hooked.

Para has had the Warthog out for years and I think if it was that popular everyone would be making one. I would never say never but by now I think someone would have done it besides Para. Maybe a single stack mag would be more appealing than the double on the Warthog. At one time I wanted a Warthog, 10 rounds of 45 in a small package. It’s starting to sound appealing again.
