Micro 9 Rator - Broken Hammer!

Hi all,

New forum member here. Bought a new micro 9 Raptor from Cabelas's a couple of weeks ago, just got to the range today for a planned 200 round break-in session with her. Also planned on shooting more rounds through my micro 9 SS while at the range today.

Completely stripped, clean & lubed with FP-10 last week. Racked the slide several hundred times & dry fired before the range trip today. Fired about ~190 rounds of 124 gr. FMJ, Fiocchi/S&B. Looked down after inserting the last magazine, the hammer is gone!!! Luckily I had my micro 9 SS with me, so I finished firing the rounds in that weapon to complete the range trip. Took a while to find the hammer spur on the floor after the shooting was done for the day.

Will call Kimber CS when they open tomorrow, turnaround "shouldn't" be an issue as their repair facility is just down the road in Troy, AL. I have never experienced this issue with 1911-style weapons, as I have Dan Wessons, Fusion Firearms, and even a Kimber Pro Carry II. Even the little micro 9 SS has been flawless so far. I'm really loving the micro 9 platform, even with the incident today with the Raptor.

Anyone else ever have or heard of a broken hammer on their Kimber?

Paul

NO, but please keep us posted as to the CS provided. We all need to know
how they do esp if good. We certainly let everyone know when it is lousy, should be fair and report all cases.

Can't say I've heard of such a thing.
Shoddy heat treating, perhaps?

Paul1955, welcome to the site from Tennessee.

Maybe first broken hammer I've heard of.

Yes Cuca, I don't know for certain but it may be a MIM part?

Will try to post photos tomorrow. First broken hammer I've seen or heard of in 30+ years of shooting pistols.

You know the old saying: "chit happens." I'm sure Kimber will take care of the problem.

Yes, it appears to be a defective casting with slag in the pour or an air pocket.
