After another day at the range, I have concluded that my big hands have a significantly better grip on my Sig P938 when I use their extended magazine. The way the base juts forward (left, in the picture below) provides a perfect rest for my pinky finger, and also tends to jam my fingers closer together when I squeeze the grip. In contrast, the extended grips for my Micro 380 (right, in the picture below) don't seem to help at all - in fact, they seem to allow my grip to slip lower in a way that feels less secure - probably because the base does not jut forward like the Sig.
I would like to modify the base of the Sig extended grips so they fit my Kimbers (both 380 and 9mm). I have read elsewhere in the forum that others have just shaved a little off the upper edge of the Sig base so the mag slips up higher into the Kimber grip, so that's the goal.
Does anyone know how to remove the base of the Sig magazine, so I can shave or sand off the top edge? It looks like it should just pop off, if levered in the proper location, but I don't want to take any chance on ruining it, for over $40 a pop.
Any hints, suggestions, or recommendations out there?
(By the way, my short P938 mags work perfectly in my Kimber Micro 9 Raptor
, so I am certain that all I have to do is shave a little of the Sig extended base out of the way.)
