Kimber Micro Desert Night

I've got a thread for my Warrior, so I figure I might as well have one for my Micro as well!

I picked up a Galco Stow-N-Go IWB holster for it that I carry at the 4:30 or so position very comfortably.

Also picked up the Kimber 7 round extended magazine, I'm using Hornady Critical Defense as my carry round.

I've put roughly 75 rounds of PMC 90 grain through it and it functions flawlessly, this one has the newer guide rod and flat recoil spring. I'm more accurate with this than I was my M&P Shield 9mm by a LOT.

Sorry for the newby question but how do you tell about the guide rod and recoil spring?

I just recently puchased a similar model but with the CTs (that I'm not in love with) and am wondering if mine has the same innards as yours?

Digging those grips, too. Mine are the flat back CT version.

Is yours a 9mm? I know the Micro 9 Desert Night comes with flat black grips rather than the G10 version like the .380.

If it's a .380, when you take the slide off the gun and look at the recoil spring and guide rod, you'll see that the new spring is "flat" rather than "round" and that the new guide rod has a half moon shape taken out of it where it sits on the bottom of the barrel (see picture below courtesy of Kimber's site).

I'm not positive if the 9mm version of the Micro had the same problem or not. Someone else with a 9mm may be able to chime in.

I am also going to ask a newby question. What is the difference between the round spring and the flat spring?

The traditional older type "round" spring is made of a piece of round metal stock coiled to a given length. The newer "flat" spring is made by coiling a piece of flat metal stock, these wind up being longer. Generally the flat wire designs are more durable. Wilson Combat offers flat wire kits for most 1911 models and the advertised improvement is 10x the lifespan of stock! Kimber does not claim the newer flat wire design for the Micro .380s will last longer, they still have the replacement interval at 1000 rounds??? Many owners that were having issues have found that the newer option is an improvement and their problems were solved by updating the recoil set up. As far as I know all the newer .380s are equipped with the new set up and if you happen to order a Micro .380 and get an older pistol that was packaged with the original rig Kimber will send you a new recoil assembly.

...I think there's a sticky on this in the gunsmith area :-)

You can find very similar grips at VZ Grips. https://vzgrips.com/pistol-grips/kimber/micro/etcd

Check our the Worple color.

They have G10 grips for the 380 & micro 9.
