Thin grip bushings for the Micro 380

I have made several grips for my Kimber Micro 380 (I posted some pictures in another thread) and am happy with how they turned out. I now want to make some thinner grips. The Micro 380 takes the same grip screws as standard 1911's but the bushings from a 1911 won't fit. The threaded holes on the frame are smaller than a standard 380. Does any one know of a source for thin bushings for the Micro 380? An alternative is to get a set of regular bushings for the Micro 380 file them down and finish cutting the threads. To do that I need to know what kind of thread cutter to get.

I thought that the Micro models all used the smaller bushings and screws. Maybe the earlier models did ? I looked at both of my Micro 9 guns and they both have the smaller bushings/screws and not the standard size. This pic is a Micro screw and a standard screw.

Bushings

Yes the Micro uses the smaller screw. The threads are the same as a full size 1911. The bushing however, is the same height as the standard 1911 while the outside threads are a smaller diameter than a standard bushing so low profile 1911 bushings won't screw into the frame of the Micro 380.

I took one of the bushings out of my Micro 9 and as you can see it's not the same height and the threads are thinner. Like I said earlier maybe they changed the sizes along the way.

My Micro 380 is two years old, but it definitely has the taller bushing and the shorter screw. I'll have to call Kimber tomorrow and see if the Micro 9's short bushing will fit my 380. Thank you.

That would be your best bet. I was looking on their site and found many different Micro bushings/screws, but none that had the short bushings with the standard threads.....Good luck

Called Kimber and they do not make short bushings for this gun. They also confirmed that standard 1911 bushings will not fit it.
