New ammo :-)

...I just noticed Federal is offering a 99gr HST option in 50 round "Law Enforcement" boxes. They're at $28.00 or so/box at Target sports USA.I haven't seen this till now?
...I ordered a few, will see how my Kimber likes them?

I don’t own a .380 but if I did I wouldn’t hesitate to try any Federal HST ammo.

Those have been around a while but I have never seen 50 count boxes. Much better value.

I would think them a good choice for longer barreled 380s, like 3.5" plus. Probably not optimum for the 2.5 to 2.75" pipsqueak guns.

...what do you see as a potential problem with this ammo in a short barreled pistol?

As long as it cycles reliably in your gun that's what matters most.

I use Hornady CD simply because there was an overwhelming number of reports cycling well in the LCP. That said, probably just as well or better with FMJ at $12 per 50 box.

The 99 grain HST is on the "heavy for caliber" side, and velocity is crucial for proper expansion. Heavy for caliber with a short barrel is not usually a good combination for optimum performance.

...ahhh, I get it.
The ammo I consider "carry" ammo for my Micro is 90gr XTP (Fiocchi Extrema). It runs flawlessly through my Micro. The Micro has been retired to the safe as far ads EDC goes, I've switched to 9mm for EDC purposes but use the Federal HST ammo (124gr).
I hadn't seen the HST .380 option before. I figured I'd see how my Micro likes it? The "bonded" concept seems to make sense in a big picture kinda way. Phil may be correct in that a FMJ $12.00/box of 50 option would be just as effective? Shot placement being more a factor than the ammo.
