new micro cary :-)

Hey, I just wanted to thank everyone that posts here. As I have never owned a 1911 style pistol before, the info I gathered reading through some of the posts helped my first trip to the range with the lil Kimber go well. First 50 rounds, Fiocchi, zero problems. Next box of ammo was PMC bronze, that sure is dirty stuff :-( Three magazines in i had a failure to load, a few magazines later when putting in a new magazine in and releasing the slide another failure to load :-( Up next a box of Fiocchi Extrema, again zero problems :-) At this point, 125 rounds, 50 of the nasty PMC stuff, I ran a box of the ranges house ammo, with the slide not locking after the last shot once. I think I had a thumb touching the release though.
She's a little different than my Ruger super blackhawk but I think I'll keep her :-)

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois cousinmark, and congratulations on the new Micro Carry. New guns and dirty ammo tend not to mix well, next time try adding a little extra lube after firing 100 rounds or so when your shooting the dirty stuff.

Welcome to the forum from almost the Middle of Tennessee. My wife's Kimber Micro Carry doesn't like certain ammo. We have been to a range three times, finally got it right. Like has been mentioned above...keep well lubed. She fired 50 rounds yesterday of American Eagle 95 gr. to qualify. She scored 90..no misfires or hangups.

Thanks for the compliment, I just read it to her. I also got to mentioned she scored 100 on the written test. Now to get our stuff processed. I was a little nervous when I stood in the background waiting my turn to qualify but she done well.

Welcome from Northern Illinois. Sounds like your wife is doing just fine, and glad your enjoying the Micro. Decent ammo and keep it well lubed and you should have no problems.

Thanks for the welcomes and congratulations to Markies wife! I'll be watching to see how Markie winds up scoring? Sounds like that could wind up being a little awkward :-)
Like I mentioned, the 1911 design is new to me, I wanted to fill a void between my super blackhawk and a NAA mini pistol .22LR and after looking at several options the micro felt best in my hand. I was kind of surprised that the guys at the gun shop told me I did not need to strip her down and clean her before the I used her? The manual doesn't seem to stress this either? Kind of felt uneasy about that, this site confirmed giving her a good once over was the way to go. Turned out there was some gunk on the rails, I'm sure if I didn't clean her up I wouldn't have made it through 7 or so magazines without a problem. Thanks again KT :-)
She's been cleaned and lubed and should be ready to roll. I hope to get back to the range on Tuesday. I'm thinking if can run 25 rounds of the the good ammo without any problems on several visits I won't worry about all the moving parts. Of course i'll be running practice ammo after the extrema to see where the gunk-up point winds up being? I won't be running the PMC bronze! My hand was black after a magazine of that.
... For what it's worth I had the gunsmith at the shop watch me take her down and reassemble to be sure I had it. All good on that but he mentioned that the extractor is a weak link in the design, with these and the Mustangs, so be really gentile when reassembling.

Just remember to watch out for the slide stop spring when you break it down and reassemble it and you should be OK.
