Lightbulb Comparison of Micro and P238 7rd mags

From my observation of the Kimber 7rd mag and the Sig 7rd mag, they are very similar and will fit and function in the others respective pistol. Six rd mags easily interchange. The main differences are in the polymer base plates on the 7rd mags. They are very different and would necessitate some minor modification to fit. If you want to use a Sig P238 mag (with the polymer base plate on the mag) in the Kimber Micro, you must file down the height of the Sig’s polymer base plate, or remove it from the mag. Conversely, if you want to use the Kimber Micro mag in the Sig P238, you must file a polymer tag that protrudes from the base plate. The polymer base plates essentially serve as pinky rests and Sig and Kimber approach this function with different designs. You could just leave the polymer base plate off, but then you would lose the cool little pinky rests.

All this is easier to see than to describe, especially next to each other. Note I am not enthusiastically recommending using one’s mag in the other, but I am saying that they can be easily modified and made to do so. Hopefully these photos will be helpful.

I think this magazine interchangeability has already been determined but those are some excellent pics to show the difference. There may be some new members that have not seen the old posts on the subject.

Thanks for the nice write-up and pics Donald :-)
I've noticed my Kimber 7 rounders will wiggle a bit if I hold the pistol in one hand and the base of the mag with the other. They seem to function fine. Have you noticed if the Sig mags are any tighter?

I can't say that I have noticed any difference. I do like the Sig polymer base plate as it serves as a nicer pinky rest. I've got six mags for my Micro and I don't plan to add any more. So this comparo was to inform new owners such as myself of the cross walking mags among the cousin mini 1911s.
