Range Day -- Why we buy Kimber's

A beautiful Fall day in the hills today. Low 70s, sunny, light breeze. I made it to the range around 1:00 this afternoon. A couple of guys sighting in deer rifles and one guy shooting an AR. They were the leftovers from the morning group and all left about an hour after I got there. This gave me the whole place all to myself for about two and half hours. I like this as I can practice some "live fire" draw and shoot drills and can move around as much as I want. I got in some serious practice with my EDC .38 revolver.

I was feeling good and hitting really well with everything. After shooting a tight 8 rd group with my '94 Kimber Classic Custom, I decide to try a make a great target worth posting here. The target was right at 10 yrds give or take. You had to dodge the mud puddles to set targets and you tend to step back to shade your eyes under the range roof. We'll call it 10.

This is not one string but 37 rounds fired over four hours. 3x7 mags and 2x8 mags = 37. Shot off hand, slow fire with max focus on holding a tight group. I mixed in some .38s, .357s and .22s on both paper and steel and would come back to this target and carefully shoot another mag. After four hours I quit before I got too tired to hold this level of concentration. Man I love this old gun.

Nice shooting Paul, I have the same gun in my collection, is that a bushing compensator?

I'd post my targets, but we already have a thread devoted to comedy......

Yes ...it's a nice piece made by Valkyrie Dynamics. They also made the aluminum grips. The comp does reduce muzzle flip and looks mean. This gun is a real shooter and has been since I took it out of the box some 23 years ago. No matter what else I take to the range I always take my old Kimber .45. It always makes a "happy face" ...mine.

Thanks for the information on the compensator bushing, you confirmed what I was thinking. My Classic Custom isn't quite as old as your's, it's a 97 but it's as accurate as any 1911 I've ever shot and I've shot some very expensive custom made 1911's.

I know what you mean, Chuck ... I've shot a couple of high end customs that, why they where really nice, I really couldn't shoot them any better than my Kimber. And I do drool over the Wilson and Nighthawks of the world I just can't justify the $3000+ price tag.

When you think how many nice guns you could buy for the price of one custom shop gun ... hard to pull that trigger.
