K6s 3"

I picked up a 3" K6S a few days ago and now think the K6S is just about perfect. My first K6S was an early polished one with the blue grips. My only complaint about that one was the blacked out sights. Kimber this year came out with different sight options and a brushed finish, so I bought another with the excellent 3 dot sights. That one has the same grips as the earlier one but in black which I really like. Now a few weeks ago Kimber announced a 3" version and I had my dealer order one, it arrived last week and now I have what I think is the ultimate carry revolver. This new 3" version came with slightly longer and really attractive wood grips. They look and feel nice but are very smooth so they need checkering. I then decided to order from Kimber a set of the black rubber grips which I prefer. I like the adhesion the rubber provides and I just like the feel of the shorter grip better, plus the rubber grip conceals better. The only thing I'd love to see Kimber do now is chamber a K6S 3" in 327 Magnum, one can hope. Here's a few photos.

Wow! Really nice looking firearm. This may sound a bit odd but the smoothness reminds me of a Clark Meltdown 1911. I don't know what would be achieved with the gun being made in 327 Mag. I doubt they coulc fit another round in the cylinder, assuming they keep the same frame size the gun qould actually weigh a bit more, and with that caliber ammo so expensive there would not be many rewards over just shooting 38 wadcutters or light handloads.

I have 5 revolvers chambered in 327 Magnum and it's such a versatile chambering with all the different loads like 327 Magnum, 32 H&R Magnum and all the 32s. I've never had trouble finding ammunition in this caliber and it's normally cheaper than it's 357 counterparts. I think the K6S would be a perfect platform for it. Perhaps Lipseys will talk Kimber into doing an exclusive run for them.

Is it on the same frame as the 2" or is it slightly larger when compared to a S&W Mod 66 3"?

I love it. But I'm happy with my Snubby. It's very accurate. Recoil is good with 125 gr and 158 gr 357 Magnum.

I bet it is more than capable at 25-50 yard targets. 3" is very close to a 4" for ballistics.

It's the same frame as the 2" version, what I consider the perfect size.

I thought I was the only one -- I have 4 .327 revolvers; three Rugers and a Taurus. All double action. I guess if Kimber brought one out I would have to get one...

The grips that come on the 3" K6S are attractive and feel good. The problem I have with them is that they are smooth to the point of being slippery. I think they are better looking than the rubber ones but they should at least be checkered. I see that Altamont is offering some nice looking checkered wood grips for the K6S now and I'm sure Kimber will at some point offer checkered grips.
