The Montana has a blind box magazine, Kevlar stock and threaded muzzle end. The Hunter (my rifle) is the least expensive Model 84. It has a removable 3 shot magazine and a less expensive synthetic stock. I have written a little about mine recently in another thread.

Just a little curious, bhunted, why "Montana is banned"?

I don't usually do this, but if you go to the Kimber site, you can compare the two rifles.

The question becomes better for whom? AFAIK the action is the same on both rifles. I am unaware of any differences in barrel quality; both come with the Kimber accuracy guarantee. Some riflemen do not like the composite trigger guard on the Hunter, but I do. I do not like blind box magazines, but others do not mind emptying loaded rounds by cycling them through the action. I do not like end-of-barrel devices, which are accommodated by the Montana's threaded barrel end, but others cannot get enough of them and do not mind the knurled thread protector. Some get giddy at the prospect of a kevlar stock like the one that comes on the Montana. I am fine with a less expensive composite stock as long as it works. See where I am going with this? If possible, I suggest that you at least handle both rifles before making your decision. By the way, I have had excellent results with the .257 Roberts. One of my fondest shooting memories from many years ago is of a 10 shot 1" 100 yard bench rest group fired with an original M77 Ruger. Best wishes in your decision making!

Bwahahahaha!
Now I know WHO was banned, but still don't know exactly what was said. It doesn't matter, though, as I wouldn't have seen the post anyway.

Rusty it was pretty much the complete thread, almost every post was offensive or out of line.

Most people are ok with Kevlar or synthetic stocks but I would prefer classic wood stock.
