Mountain Ascent Ammo Question

I just picked up a 300 WSM and am looking for factory ammo recommendations. I normally shoot Barnes TTSX or Federal Premium Vital Shoks. I mainly hunt whitetails, with the occasional elk hunt. I am thinking 150 or 165 grain. What are you guys getting the best factory results with? I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks

Scopebite, welcome to the site from Tennessee. Sorry don't own a Kimber rifle so no clue about the ammo needed.

While I don't have that specific gun in that caliber, Ive found that my Kimbers always shoot well with the Barnes Bullets. I would go with the 150gr TTSX in the 300wsm.

I went with 2 boxes of Barnes 165 gr & am going to also try a box of HSM 168 gr. We'll see. Thanks for the recommendation.

Just registered after finding this thread while trying to learn about others experience. I have a mountain ascent in 300WSM that I've been playing with this summer to try and get some tight groups.

I've shot
HSM 168 gr Berger
Hornady Precision Hunter 200 gr ELDx
Nosler Trophy Grade 180 gr AB
Barnes TTSX 165 gr

The Nosler TG and HSM are best. Interestingly, I can basically have touching holes at 200 yds with my first 2 shots, but that third gets a little errant. With both these factory loads I can still shoot 2 inch 3 shot groups at 200 yds (from a bench) but that 3rd shot is sort of frustrating me. In reading, it seems that a lot experience this and it may be secondary to the thin barrel heating up.

This is unscientific, but that barrel does heat up significantly, so maybe there is something to this. I'd really like to carry this rifle this fall for my elk hunt and I probably will. I've got a Kimber select in 300 WM that is a tack driver and has many elk and deer kills to its credit, so will probably bring that as a back up. I would like to take 5+lbs off my pack though and carry that 300WSM.

Not really contributing much here, just posting my thoughts.
