Varminter 22-250

Had about an hr before dark to burn some powder so I grabbed the only factory box I had some hornady 55's and a handful of reloads for my wifes rifle and headed out. I felt pretty darn rusty when the 55's printed a 4" 3 shot group. So while that one was cooling down I picked up my old swift and proceeded to put 3 in a half inch, OK so not me that was a relief. Wifes loads are 50gr figured id give those a try next. Those ones put a smile on my face 3 shots into an inch. So with some work I think the varminter will be a shooter.

It could be as something as simple as the rate of the rifle's twist.

Both my Ruger 77 heavy barrel and my AR with a Shilen barrel had very tight twists, and dropped the bullets almost into the same hole.
...No matter where you are it's enemy territory...

Lots of varmint rifles run a 1:12 or 1:14 twist.
Varmint bullets are normally frangible.
If you twist them too fast, you risk tearing the jacket off a varmint round. Keep dropping weight till it groups.

I have a friend with a 223 who wants to shoot heavy varmint bullets, but they wont stabilize nicely.

A 40 grain will shoot the same hole. 50 grain prints 3-4. He wanted to shoot 55gn. I think his was 1:12
