Varmint Rifle Recommendations?

It seems the Rifles Forum isn't very active, but thought I would ask for a recommendation anyway. I am considering retiring my scoped Savage Model 11 in .223 (pre-ATK ownership) and want to consider a suitable Kimber as a replacement for controlling my Coyote population. I've also been known to drop a few skunks (4 legged) with the Savage. Note, I typically take my shots for coyote at 50 to 100 yards. Rarely will the critters come closer than 25 yards and if they do, it is almost at sunrise.

Please indicate if you have experience in varmint shooting and what you use to get the job done. Thanks for your thoughts and recommendations.

I've hunted coyotes and bobcats with Remington with bull barrels. Both .223 and .17 The .17 was a nice little gun as far as keeping the pelts in good shape but wasn't so great at 300 + yards or with a wind. Guess that's all I have to offer.

Thanks for the response Spotly. I agree with your thoughts on the .17. Congrats on getting that distance out of your .17. I have a Henry in .17 with their octagon barrel and it's great to about 50-60 yards when there is no or low winds. Seems it's more of an issue with the available ammo than the gun.

I have the Remington on the shopping list, but I'm getting a bit of negative feedback from my gunsmith on the current model 700's (he's not happy with the "cheaper" triggers). Is your Remington a pre-Cerberus model?

I live on a large farm. Care less about pelts. Despise the 'yotes. I generally use our Rem. 700 in .308 R5 mil spec. It's been a flawless hunting rifle and the 'yotes hate it

Mine were purchased in the early 80s. I no longer own the .17 as the performance at distance wasn't very good plus it was developing an unusual pattern around the chamber - looked almost like stretch marks.

Thanks for the responses guys. One other consideration I didn't mention is to have my Savage re-barreled. I'll see what is available and the gunsmith charges to get that done.

I thought I would let this thread die, but after reading my new issue of American Rifleman relative to the Bergara rifles, I decided to ask about their new rifles. I thought I'd add the B-14 line to my shopping list. Has anybody here considered the B-14 line for varmint hunting?
