Yes, I put a set on my Solo, but they immediately chewed a nice chunk out of my thumb, and so I had to file down the thumb area to make it smooth (not at all difficult to do).
I also have VZ grips on my Kimber 1911s (but they come factory with the thumb area smoothed and indented).
Are the worth it? Yes. They give you a solid if somewhat unpleasant grip, but I'd trade solid for unpleasant anyday. You can always sand them down to custom, but at some point you end up defeating the purpose (unless the purpose is primarily for show, something I've never understood with a CCW pistol).
