I got my CTC laser for my Solo Tuesday, and finally got out today. I also took my laser equipped J frame 640 Pro Series.
Well, I gotta say, the 640 performed like a champ. I shot 15 rds of Sig Sauer 38 Super, then 15 rds of Speer short barrel +p and the gun is a joy to shoot. A little heavier than a lot of J frames, but worth it. Great FUN!
Then came the Solo. When I first installed the CTC grips I remembered why I didn't like my Solo CDP. I did NOT like the feel of the grip with the laser mounted. So I went ahead and tried it anyway. I shot four mags, 2 standard and 2 extended crammed with 6 rds of 124 NATO, and the gun purred through 25 rds! Then I switched to 115 gr Federal, and again, all 25 rds purred to the paper. The laser did jump out of alignment (zero) during these 25 rds, but reset it and back to business for the self defense rounds I brought with me. My preferred, DRT 85gr (light recoil too!), two full mags without disruption. Then I shot two full mags of Sig Sauer 115gr and again, zero malfunction.
I think this gun will receive an award when it retires as one of the few Solo's that actually shoots everything I put in it! The Solo is my go to gun and I have shelved my Marshall (Micro) 9 CDP in favor of the Solo and 640. I cannot explain it, but I really dig this Solo. No my wife cannot pull the slide back and I have to shave the top of thumbs as the slide takes hair on occasion (I'm not really hairy, just fat hands I guess) but the gun is a gem as a pocket, IWB, or belt holster.
The CTC is going back. Sorry laser lovers, this one is not for me
