New Solo DC Range woe?

So I am at the range the other day and noticed a young man shooting a gun that was taken out of a KIMBER black box. I watch him for a while and could tell he was getting frustrated. So being the friendly lad I am, I approach him. He shows me his brand new SOLO DC. As mentioned in other posts, since I always carry my Solo DC, I removed mine from the holster and we chatted.

Well, he was frustrated as the mag in his Solo, fell out EVERY round he fired. So, first thing I did was shoot a couple of rounds from MY gun using HIS mag. No problems, so probably not the mag. Then I had him shoot his gun with my carry mag and my spare mag. Each round he shot caused the mag to fall out of the gun.

He told me he had heard some bad things about the Solo's and I stated to him that there is a lot of bad traffic out there on this gun, but I personally knew of several good guns to and mine is one of them.

He told me his reasons for wanting the Solo. All of which match mine and others' reasonings, so I told him to call Kimber and tell them exactly what happened including my gratuitous presence and the opportunity he had to try several things. I hope it works out for him.

That is pretty much exactly what the used Solo Carry I purchased was doing. Ended up changing the Mag Release assembly (myself) that that solved the problem. Its been 100% trouble free since then.

Hopefully he will get in touch with Kimber (so they can take care of it for him) and go off and trade it in at a huge loss.

That is exactly what I told him. I thought I had read where someone posted something similar to his problem, can't say for sure it was yours. I mentioned he could ask for a release assembly from Kimber. He is chief mechanic for local choppers doing rescue etc. Should be able to handle that small job.

If you remove the slide assy and look from the top to the frame assy, you can see 2 black teeth of the magazine release feature. This is a sheet metal V-shaped part. Possibly you don't need to send a gun to Kimber.
There are 2 possible options:
1. The sheet metal springiness mag.release angle/length(bad part fabricated)
2. Too big distance between the frame mag.shell and sheet metal part (bad frame fabricated)

Just punch those teeth down a very little and your problem will be fixed. If not, send it to Kimber and they know what to do.

That's the same problem I was having with my M9 (sorry SWCA/Tom) using the 7 round mags. Kimber fixed it for me and it's all good now.
