Solo ID questions....

Ok, I'm the new guy as far as Solo ownership. I see you guys referring to Solos with different model numbers, but I don't see anything on the pistols themselves that identify them. I was looking in the "show us your Solo" thread and I saw the first picture labeled "first generation".... can someone give a short synopsis of the different generations of the Solo? Can you tell by serial number?

Sorry if this is too basic a question! Have mercy on a new owner...

Thanks!

As far as I know the internals of the solo are the same there different models with the way they are accessorized externally.

If my memory serves me right the Solo made its debut at the 2011 Shot Show. The models are basically the same, they just made different cosmetic options as the model list expanded. The basis model had rubber grips that came in stainless, blued or two tone. They added CT grips to models along with a variety of color changes also.

After 6 years the model was discontinued for a variety of issues which you can find in the Solo forum.

If you want to know the year that yours was made contact Kimber and give them the serial number.

Look harder... on the slide under the ejection port. It will display the model.

For example, mine is an STS.

Every one I've seen either just says "CARRY" or STS. Just wondered about others. Thanks.

If all you have ever seen is Carry or Carry STS on the slide then those are the only ones you've had in your hand. However, if you picked up a CDP or Sapphire or Carry DC.... that's what you'd see on the slide.

Just look on the slide under the ejection port and you'll know what you've got in your hand.

There are no Kimber specified "generations" of the same model as far as I know. That said, there were lots of folks who fantasized of new and improved generations that were somehow more reliable than the endless reports of Solo that didn't work. The only Solo that so far has not had endless reports of malfunctions is the one that says Discontinued on the slide. That model hasn't had a single hiccup reported.

See thumbnails for enlarged pics.

Thanks, guys. More reading on my part has supplemented the pictures you all posted. Pretty clear to me now!

I've got the DC which apparently stands for "Deep Cover" has the DLC coating on the slide and everything is blacked out. Also has the Tritium Night Sights. I love how bright the night sights are. I can literally see it from across our bedroom on the nightstand when I walk through the door in the dark. Oh and it also has "melted edges" which amounts to the corners have been polished round.
