Bought My First Kimber

Just bought my first Kimber Solo and I looked at the list of ammo they recommend. Is there any ball ammo that has worked for anyone. I plan on buying there suggested ammo but that will get pricey for practice..

I've used Federal American Eagle FMJ and Speer truncated FMJ 115 thru 147 grain and never had a problem. Although my issues were fail to feed with premium ammo the FMJ always worked. Im sure the brand is unimportant as long as its name brand, brass cased fodder.

I use federal hydra shok and Hornady Critical Defense. It is pricy but gun go bang every time . Good luck. Stay aware from low cost ammunition and Kimber 8 round mags. Keep it clean and oiled.

Welcome to the Kimber Solo subforum. Before you do anything, recommend you field strip, clean, lube and reassemble, paying special attention to catching the spring when reassembling the slide stop.

Try some 124gr ball ammo. If the guns functions with no problems on that, then try some 115gr. I reload and run my ammo a little hot. So, I have had very few issues.

The current ammo flavor for our Solo CDP LG is the 124gr Federal American Eagle FMJ.

Many Solo owners remark on the weight of bullets required and the problems with racking the slide. It kind of reminds me of issues with the Colt Gold Cup in the 1970s and 1980s.

We used to have two recoil springs, one for full-house loads and one that was used primarily for 200 grain semi-wadcutter bullets with smaller amounts of Bullseye powder. Those reduced loads were for just punching paper on PPC pistols.

Does Kimber (or an after-market supplier) make a recoil assembly for the Solo that would accomplish this same idea? The owner could use the reduced tension assembly for 115 grain bullets and plinker style reloads, then go home clean the pistol, change out the spring, and switch to premium ammunition.

124 gr FMJ Blazer Brass or American Eagle. Worked great.

I personally recommend what Kimber recommends before shooting anything else. After you are sure it functions with what they recommend, then experiment with other ammo. If it doesn't function with the specific ammo they recommend, quit beating yourself up looking for what will function and send it in for service. I will say I carry Remington Ultimate Defense 124gr, they are the same as Golden Sabers. They have been 100 percent reliable. As far as ball ammo goes, all of Kimber's recommended ammo is hollow point, so take that as you will. Try ball ammo later after you know it functions properly with what Kimber recommends.

Mine had issues with the recommended ammo first. I had FTE. I sent it in and it functions properly now. It has gotten even better with use. I have right at 1000 round through it now and it is my EDC. I love this little gun. I figured I would only carry it when I wanted something small, and would continue to have my Shield be my EDC, I love the Shield, but the Solo has replaced it, it is just too easy to carry.
