Kimber Solo: Great Concept, Poor Execution

Hello all-

Recently purchased a Kimber Solo DC with a born-on date of March 15, 2014 from a friend who had never fired it.

Let me just say, i am very disappointed and will be selling it. After cleaning, I made SURE to capture the little stop spring in the correct position, per Kimbers

.... manual. I applied light oil (Slip 200 EWL) to the frame rails.

Fast forward to range results. Now before you say limp wristing etc, I own several other pistols and shoot 3 gun so I know it’s not my technique. Here are the results:

Sig Elite 124gr FMJ
50 rounds fired
1 double-feed
2 stovepipe

American Eagle 147gr FMJ
50 rounds fired
3 stovepipes

Winchester NATO 124gr FMJ
50 rounds fired
2 double feeds

Federal HST 147gr
35 rounds fired
2 stovepipes
1 double feed

Speer Gold Dot 124gr+p
20 rounds fired
2 stovepipes

Hornady Critical Duty 135gr
25 rounds fired
1 double feed
1 stovepipe

In all, very disappointed. I wanted to love this little gun, but using it in a life or death situation is likely to get me killed.

A shame really.

I agree with Yuk. Many of us who have the Solo model have had to send them back for a tune up and most of them work fine after being yonkered.

Many have had no issues at all right out of the box, but it's a flip of the coin with that little pistol.

Good luck.

Actually, the only fix for a finicky Kimber Solo, which is about half of them, is a new Kimber Micro 9 or a Sig P938. Just the opinion of a guy who has had three (all with different problems)

Keep oiling it and shooting it. It'll work itself out. Then pick the ammo that runs the best. I have 3 including one of the first and it shoots anything, even 115 fmj. My others work best with federal 135grn hydroshok and 124 grn hst. Good luck, welcome, and when all else fails do what others advised and send it in.

Sorry, man. You should have called me first. I'd have talked you out of your ill-conceived purchase of that steaming bucket of dog vomit.

Some folks will try to convince you that all you need to do is send it back to Kimber and they'll eventually make it all right. But I ask you, how many tubes of polishing compound does it take until you can polish a turd into a sparkling diamond?

I agree with 427malibu. Keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
