Guns & Ammo -- Dishonorable mention

The latest issue of Guns & Ammo has a nice photo layout and article on the new Kimber EVO.

Of special note was this paragraph:

"Not Going Solo: Gun enthusiasts, Kimber fans in particular, will remember the company's previous striker-fired model, the Solo. It was discontinued in 2017 for having a litany of issues. When I asked Potter [Winslow Potter is Kimber's director of product management] if the Evo borrowed anything from the plagued Solo, he responded by noting the only similarities the Solo and the EVO have is that they are both made by Kimber and both are striker-fired 9mms-- that's it".

Potential EVO buyers may now breath a sigh of relief.

I bought a Solo on the strength of the Kimber name. I still trust their 1911's but it will be a long time before I will even look at anything else that they make.

They need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel and fix what they keep screwing up. Lets face it.
They come out with new guns every year but the minute they stray away from the orig 1911 design, they screw up.
Love my 1911 Kimbers but I have no interest in any of their other designs.

My Solo DC still works fine for me. Not very interested in the EVO. Solo DC in summer and K6s in winter, with a little 365 mixed in.

you know what's funny? Around here Kimber had a terrible name due to poor manufacturing and QC in the mid 2000s/2010s, on the 1911's. I shied away from them. But when I wanted a pocketable 9mm, the Solo won my money. And to this day, it's been a fantastic pistol in both function and accuracy. I will go to my grave believing that it's "litany of problems" were operator error not the pistol's design.

Any chance you could do a write up on how the Solo and the P365 compare?

I would not expect Mr. Potter to claim anything else but that the EVO is totally different.

Proof is in the pudding, time will tell if the EVO is a Hero or another Solo pig! I truly hope it works but I'm not holding my breath.

My Kimber UC2 always works and has never had a stoppage.

Of course it does! It's made out of 1911 parts that are interchangeable with those of 1905 vintage Colt 1911s.

I like the smaller overall size, but then, had I bought a Colt Commander with an alloy frame I'd find that pistol a good choice, also.

Now Mossburg is coming out with a small striker-fired 9mm pistol. Must b a market somewhere.
