solo

Had my first failure with my oldest solo carry today. Went to the range with one of my three solos and my ultra cdp [9mm] and sig p365. threw in some winchester nato 9mm in the solo click no bang. Un loaded no mark on primer. Put it back in the range bag and tried it in the ultra cdp. worked in that and the sig. Came home after about 150 rounds. Cleaned the firearms but saved the solo for last. It seems like the striker spring is real weak. Took apart my other two and yes very weak compared the the others. Also the striker looks a bit shorter, and yes the striker channel is clean. Called Kimber and ordered a new striker and a couple of springs. She told me she thinks they have them in stock. I asked what happens if they dont and was told I would have to send it in for evaluation. The story will continue when I find out. This has to be the first malfunction I had with this gun and I had it about [I dont know it was when they first came out.

I don't want to create misinformation, but I like my automatics to "rattle" a bit, like The Toonerville Trolley.

Yes, even my beloved UC2 punches groups in the +2 inch range.

I don't even know how many rounds have been fired since I changed out any of the springs. The slide opens and closes without binding or slamming backward.

More to the point, I view my pistols as "a piece of metal with holes drilled in it." Oh, I take good care of them, and make sure a gunsmith sees them regularly, as they do guard the house. And as a younger man I used to panic if the firearm made a noise I could not identify.

Enjoy your pistol, keep it clean and oiled. But don't let it suck the fun out of going to the range.

Yes, I did. I'll be home for a few days, but even now the pain is ebbing. I even finished polishing three Barges that are way overdue. They'll get the paste when I can stand a bit longer.
