Whenever I read an article on a subject that interests me, I try to savor every sentence, every word. Sometimes the author will convey his thoughts in a way that leave me thinking, "golly, that's a pretty good point." Other times, an author may make a statement that destroys any credibility that he might have otherwise had, or he will make statements that render his other points completely suspect.

Higginbotham's article was ok, I suppose, but he made a couple statements that gave me pause. His primary criticism of the pistol was that it has an external safety, and that after testing he didn't once forget to disengage the safety. Really?

I don't know WHERE he's coming from with the statement about the external safety. If he can't get over that, then he's critical of nearly every single action pistol that's ever been made. The only guns that meet his "external safety-less" criteria will be some double action guns or a few striker fired guns. Maybe he's a proponent of carrying the single action revolver.

And I don't know where he's coming from with the statement about not forgetting to disengage the safety. That's such a basic function that it's akin to forgetting to chamber a round or forgetting to pull the trigger. To make that an issue of the functionality of the gun is to label oneself a beginner, incapable of offering relevant advice to experts, and unqualified to offer helpful advice to newbies.
