DIY Grips

Have any of you woodworkers made grips for a Solo? When my Solo returns from Kimber, I'd like to make some nice wooden grips.

Are there any templates available or did you just use the factory grips as a template?

I just used the factory grips as a template I used a piece of three-quarter inch Cocobolo and I set my table saw fence the exact width of the grips and ripped a strip of that Cocobolo. Then I determined the thickness that I wanted and I ripped those strips just a little bit thicker than the solo grips. I ripped two strips out of the same piece of wood so that I would have a butterfly match on both sides. Then with a belt sander round the edges, corners and the taper around the edges. And a Dremel tool for the fine work and the relief cuts on the backside. Then sprayed about seven or eight coats of satin lacquer and there you have it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

If my Solo ever returns from Kimber, I'll make some grips.

From what I've seen of your tool chests you should have no problem at all making and selling grips for solos.
