Question 1911's Other than Kimber

What 1911's other than Kimber have you owned and how did they compare?

I have had a WWII Colt GI Government Model and Colt Series 70 National Match Gold Cup. The GI functioned well, but needless to say, the sights really sucked, the trigger was horrid and the finish looked like the Battle of the Bulge went over it!! The Gold Cup was a great gun. I had it through my "bullseye shooting phase". It's trigger could not even begin to match up with the trigger on my Kimber Custom Stainless II. I got frustrated and sold it off because I found that I could shoot my Smith and Wesson Model 15 .38 Special more accurately than the fancy Colt!!

The Kimber is still the best I have ever had!!!

Kimber is first/only, for now. But I would not be opposed to experimenting with some high quality hardware. It's just hard to justify the cost.

The majority of my handguns have been revolvers. Years ago I had an Auto Ordnance 1911 that had been pretty well used up. I wasn't impressed. I also had a Taurus PT1911 for a while. It was OK but nothing to get excited about.

Owned or still own Colts (series 70s and 1991s-all upgraded), SAs, Smiths Kimbers and a Dan Wesson Specialist. The Kimbers have been the best for accuracy, fit and finish, ergonomics. The DW is a fairly recent buy with only a thousand or so rounds through it. But it is impressive after a couple small start up issues. I have shot many of the semi customs and true customs and though nice are not worth the money to me. But what people spend is relative to what they make I guess. The Smith E series was the worst of all I have owned. Though now it runs runs fine.
