Mods for SERPA holster

Just in case anyone wants to use one; I know most don't like putting there umpteen dollar amount gun in a plastic/kydex holster because of scratching or marring the finish but I thought I would share how I fixed my SERPA to not do that.

What you'll need:
1 SERPA holster
1 #2 Phillips head screw driver
1 Tube of contact cement or leather glue (I like contact cement cause your going to be gluing leather to plastic)
1 piece of 12"x12" leather (make sure it's thin enough to not add too much volume to the inside of the holster)
1 Scissors

1. Remove the retention screw the retention device and the paddle or whatever u use to secure it to your body.

2. Place the holster on a baking sheet in an oven set at 220 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes depending on how tight the holster is to begin with. You want the holster to be fairly loose after baking because the leather will fill up that extra room you just made.

3. WHILE THE HOLSTER IS STILL WARM. Wrap your pistol from reciever forward with a rag or cloth and shove it in the holster, this will help stretch it open. Leave it in until the holster cools completely.

4. IF HOLSTER IS STILL TIGHT BY THIS POINT, REPEAT STEPS 2 AND 3 ONLY THIS TIME WRAP WITH MILTIPLE RAGS. IF NOT CONTINUE TO STEP 5.

5. Remove the pistol and rag from the holster cut the leather to fit in the holster just under the front sight guard slot (leave the front sight slot clear from all debris as to not obstruct the pistol from being drawn) I cut it so it would only contact the upper receiver on my ultra carry. Do this for both sides.

6. Apply the contact cement to the leather, allow it to set until its tacky, this will make it less messy and much easier to apply although its still pretty difficult, once it's tacky apply it to the inside of the holster.

7. Next cut a thin piece of leather for the retention piece you removed earlier, this piece should run the length of the piece beginning just under the pirate hook looking piece down to the bottom, apply this piece the same way as in step 6.

8. Reassemble the holster and adjust the retention screw and viola a leather lined SERPA all thanks to your handy work.

P.S. If the holster it tight after adding leather, try soaking the holster in water and letting it dry with your pistol in it to shrink the leather just be sure to wrap your pistol in cellophane or something to prevent corrosion.

Give the Silent Thunder a try

You really should take a look at the Silent Thunder holsters from Garret Industries.

They have developed a range of leather lined kydex holsters that are quiet, very easy on the gun's finish, and extremely comfortable with great retention.

I have one of those Silent Thunder holsters. I don't really like it, because I don't like Kydex holsters at all, but if Kydex is your think, it's extremely well made and the leather lining is nice as all get out.
