I take one of my Kimber 45's every time.
Not much help with small game and/or quail/dove. I lust to knock down a quail, but I enjoy day dreaming too.

It's not that it CAN'T work Chris. Just that there are better options to ensure a clean kill. As long as you are close enough to place the shot properly (a blind or stand) you should be good to go. I think Buffalo Bore offers a few cartridges designed for hunting and would be better than ammo intended for self defense. I don't recall exactly where it is on here but there's a post by one of the members who was going to use his .45 on a hog hunt. I don't recall hearing how that went? Post up how you do :-)

I always have a sidearm with me when deer hunting (this year, that will be a Kimber). However, that is only for the one who runs up on me from behind and is right under the stand. I would much rather take a clean, kill shot with the .270. Love the animals...They're noble creatures and deserve the very best shot you can make!

Wink Hunt With A Kimber? Sure!!

I have used my Kimber Pro Carry II while deer hunting. However, not on deer. I have shot a bobcat and two coyotes with my .45 ACP pistol. I use Winchester Supreme PDX1 230 grain JHP's as a hunting load.
.45 ACP Winchester Supreme Elite.jpg

Both coyotes died in their tracks, victims of through and through shots to the lungs. I was shocked at the damage caused by the Winchester load on the bobcat. I hit him at the back of the lungs and the .45 slug left a 4 1/2" "viewing port" clean through the cat. I actually saw daylight through him!!! He was dead when he hit the ground.

Would I use my PC2 on a deer? Maybe, if the situation was such that I could guarantee a clean single shot kill. I'm talking about rock throwing distances!! So far Bambi has not offered that shot........yet!!!! Pictures when it happens!!!

I've taken one deer with a handgun. But it was a S&W 629 .44 mag. Shot was about 30 yards. Not sure I'd make that shot with a .45.
