New to Kimber

Just bought my Wife her Christmas present. A Kimber Ultra Bel Air 2. This is our first Kimber and first 1911 platform. My daily carry is a G20 and my Wife used to have a Bersa Thunder .380 but we sold it.

A few months ago, we were at Bass Pro in Altoona, Iowa and she saw the Micro .380 Bel Air. I of course thought that was pretty sweet as I'm also a car nut and she thought it was really cool.

Being that .380 is more expensive than 9mm, I did some research online amd discovered the Micro 9 Bel Air. Almost bought that one until I discovered the Ultra Bel Air 2. Besides the Ultra looking to be a bit bigger and no grip safety on the mirco, I'm not sure what else is different? Are they both 1911s?

Not much information online about either, less about the Ultra Bel Air 2. Should be here tomorrow Too bad I have to hide it until Christmas

Welcome from Northeast, Pa. Congratulations on your Ultra Bel Air 9. I have an Ultra 9 and it's a great gun. I would choose an Ultra over a Micro but that's all a matter of personal choice.

Welcome to the forum from GA. Congratulations on the UC Bel Air, I second it....your wife will love it! I have an UC2 Sapphire, I'm female, and it is my favorite pistol to shoot; very accurate, low recoil, and just a fun and beautiful pistol. Good luck with it and happy shooting! Once Christmas rolls around, make sure that you clean and lube it well before taking it out to the range, check your manual for ammo suggestions too, I believe they recommend heavier grains than the standard 115. I usually use 124 and it liked the 147 too.

Aaron, welcome to the forum. I am sure your wife will enjoy her Bel Air, regardless of model or cal. About a year ago I got the itch for a .380. I wanted the Raptor model, but my LGS did not have one. Once I saw the Micro Bel Air, I had to have it. It looks like a, well, 1957 Chevy Bel Air that is stunningly beautiful. And I am a guy (and not a girly man either). I tend not to buy colorful guns, but this one I just had to have. Yes, my buds tease me about, but I don't care. It makes for an easily concealed, pocket carry pistol.

I do think the Ultra Carry is a nice model and I am a fan of 9mm. Maybe some day I will need to get one of those, but it won't be the Bel Air model. I like that mirror polished SS slide and light blue color, but only in a very small pistol and not a larger one.

Aaron, welcome to the site from Tennessee! You made a wise choice on the Ultra model, the Belair color choice is just eye candy. I think you will both enjoy shooting the Ultra assuming she lets you try it out. Like they said, clean and lube and use quality heavy grain bullet ammo.
I wouldn't normally buy a pistol of color but I like the Sapphire versions.

Micro Carry 380's, Micro 9 look like the 1911 platform of pistols but I think are different.
