First trip to the range with my 9mm Ultra CDP II.

To begin with I pushed this gun today, first time out I put 250 rounds through it. Never having a 9mm or Ultra anything before I put the first 2 magazines down range just to get a feel for the trigger and grip. I could definitely tell a difference in the handling of the gun from my full size grip guns. I put another magazine in it, ran a 25 yard slow fire pistol target out to 20' and easily put all the shots inside the 7 ring (5 1/2). I did that 4 more times before putting a fresh target up and running it out to 30'. Again I kept all the shots inside the 7 ring but I had to keep adjusting my grip on the gun, the shorter grip just felt funny. Long story short this Ultra CDP is a shooter, I slowly worked my targets out to 25 yards and was able to keep all my shots inside the 5 ring (9 1/2). The only problem I had was with shot #237 and shot #248 they both failed to extract. The cause is yet to be determined, I ran a total of 250 rounds through the gun without cleaning or adding any additional lubricant. I was tired, I fired 100 rounds of .45, 250 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .380 in addition to having a problem with a bunch of city guys acting up on the range.

Sounds like you got a keeper Chuck. What do you think of 9mm compared to .380 and .45?

Congrats on your new shooter Chuck...
Now if you can only get the Chicago hood rats to put on tee shirts with the 5 ring {91/2in} target on their chest all will be fine...

It wasn't a good day to be comparing them. I went about the whole thing the wrong way. I started with the 100 rounds of .45, I usually shoot 100 - 150 rounds a trip. Then I switched over to the 9mm for 250 rounds and finally hit the .380 for another 100 rounds.

I should of left the .45 at home but I took it out of habit, I always shoot one or two .45's when I go. I pushed the 9mm because I wanted to get the gun broken in quickly, I should have just taken the CDP and put 300 or so rounds through and been done for the day, but...... I had just recently done a trigger job on my P238 .380 and wanted to do some testing with it so I put 100 rounds through it.

Honestly by the time I put the last 20 or so rounds through the .380 it felt like I was shooting my .41 magnum. Holding a bourbon on the rocks in my right hand feels real good right now.

With one of my .45's I only need the 7 (5 1/2") ring, the 5 ring would just be a waste of ink.

Congrats on a fine day at the range, Chuck. You'll get used to the Ultra grip. I actually like it, but I don't have huge hands either.
