Magazine question- which brand?

I need to buy some magazines. My choice is the Kim-Pro Tac Mag, or the Checkmate with Checkmate follower and hybrid feed lips. I've never had a Checkmate mag. Never had a problem with Kim-Pro mags.

Any thoughts?

I use Kim-Pro Tac and Wilson Combat. They work well, so I trust them.

From additional reading, it would seem Checkmate makes Kimber mags. I don't know if it's true or not. Anyway, they are the same price with the excellent Kimber sale going on, and I already like Kimber mags, so I figured, why am I even wondering.

I bought some Kim-Pro Tac mags.

Never had any experience with Checkmate magazines but I've got over a dozen Kimpro Tac-mags that have never given me a problem.

You might want to check out www.joes1911magmania.com, I haven't looked at their .45 magazines yet ( they offer a variety) but I bought 5, 1911 9mm magazines that are identical to the magazines Kimber is selling for less then half of what Kimber is asking. The magazines work perfectly and every part from the spring to the follower is identical. The only difference is Kimbers name is inscribed on the bottom of their magazines. They may also have unbranded Kimpro Tac-mags but I haven't taken the time to look at all their .45 magazines yet.

Here is the thread we had going on the 9mm magazines from Joes1911

Word is that joes1911magmania sells Checkmate seconds, which would dovetail with Checkmate making Kimber mags. Also, the reference to hybrid on Joes site seems to reinforce that, because other than Checkmate, I've never seen a reference to hybrid feedlips. Also, Joes is located in the same town as Checkmate.

I can confirm that, at least for the 9 rd mags for my 9mm Tactical Pro II, Checkmate supplies Kimber mags. The firearm came with one mag. I purchased 2 more directly from Kimber and 2 more from Checkmate. All 5 mags have the same identical markings and numbers.

Talking My 2 Cents Worth!!

I have never had a problem with a Kimber magazine. I have used Ship McCormick Shooting Star magazines also. I had one that gave me feeding issues. After I "adjusted it" there were no more feeding issues!!!

NO MORE FEEDING ISSUES!!! BTW, Chip McCormick replaced the defective magazine with two new Shooting Stars that work 100%!!! In the long run, I'm gonna stick with the Kimber mags from now on!!

I am new to the 1911 game but I have the Kimber mag, Wilson Combat (with pad...don't really like pad) and a Chip McCormick and all have functioned properly but I have only had a few hundred rounds thru the gun.

I use two Kimber Pro Tac Mags and 10 older Pachmayers that I use in my Colt. All work perfectly.
