Bad news recently...firearm was stolen

Hey guys/gals just letting you know that my firearm was stolen from Jeep recently. I unfortunately lost my bill of sale receipt during a house move and I contacted my FFL for paper work stating it was legally transferred to me. However my FFL suffered a stroke and I am not sure if I can get this paperwork any time. I have the firearm's serial number and such, just wondering if the police department will just take my "word" that it belonged to me.

Losing sleep over this and what kind of harm the piece of shit thief sold the gun too or if it will be used on someone innocent.

Having a shitty day

I'm sorry to hear that, was it your Micro Carry that was stolen? Did you have it in a safe/lock box in your jeep or was it just in the glove compartment/console?

Why wouldn't the PD take your word for it? You are a law abiding citizen.

Did you take any photos of it?

The police will not have any problem with taking the serial # and other info from you.The sooner you get that info.to them the sooner they can enter it into NCIC and hopefully retrieve your gun.Best of luck to you.

Bummer!

Hope you get it back soon. You need to report this to the police ASAP to ensure you are not connected to anything that happens from this point forward.

Not to be a Monday morning quarterback, but when I leave my gun in the truck, I use the safety cable provided with the gun to secure it to the vehicle. May not be theft proof, but it would take them longer to get through the cable and might give up.

I know it's too late to close the barn door but I have scanned the paper work for all my guns and burned it along with pictures of them to a DVD. I have the file on my computer, a copy in my safety deposit box and another one at my sons house.

What a great idea, thanks!

I have also generated paperwork for several FTF sales/swaps. It is a very simple "bill of sale" type document, but notes the date of transfer, the weapon serial number and an acknowledgement by signature of the new owner.

I'll scan them, too...

If you are an iPhone person, (maybe others too), there are great apps for gun stuff. I too also take pictures of all my guns and especially after making any additions or changes to them, add them to my app, on my hard drive and they are also backed up off site to a secured server. Original paperwork is kept in a fire rated safe.

The app is called: Gun Log SPC
Here is the link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gun-...551016396?mt=8

For detailed info, check out his blog which gives you way more info than on itunes..

Do report it ASAP.
Several years ago I gave one of my sons a Walther PPKS.
It was later stolen from his home in northern Indiana.
2 years later it turns up in Atoka Oklahoma.
Thanks to NCIC I eventually got it back.
I would love for that pistol to speak. I would like to know where all it traveled.
You may see it again someday.
